Moving to Romania
Romania offers expats an exciting mix of a growing economy, vibrant cities, and stunning natural landscapes. Major cities such as Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, and Iași attract international professionals, creatives, and students. Bucharest stands out as a dynamic financial and business center with diverse job opportunities, while Cluj-Napoca has become an innovation and IT hub. Regions such as Transylvania, the Carpathian Mountains, and the Danube Delta also offer excellent quality of life and a wide range of leisure activities.
The cost of living is significantly lower compared to Switzerland, particularly for housing, services, and daily expenses. At the same time, Romania is investing heavily in infrastructure and technology, providing a solid education system as well as access to both public and private healthcare. More information is available from InterNations or the expat guides at Expat.com.

Customs and Import Regulations in Romania
As an EU member, Romania follows European customs and import regulations. Personal household goods can generally be imported duty- and tax-free if they were already in personal use and will continue to be used privately. Swiss citizens must provide proof of residence change, such as deregistration from Switzerland and a rental or purchase contract in Romania. More details can be found at the Romanian Customs Authority.
Vehicles can be imported as part of household goods if they have been owned for at least six months. After import, vehicles must be registered in Romania. Information is available from the Romanian Traffic Authority (DRPCIV). Pets may be brought if they have an EU Pet Passport, microchip, and valid rabies vaccination.
