Moving to Poland
Poland offers expats an exciting mix of a dynamic economy, historic cities, and relatively low living costs. Major cities such as Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, and Gdansk attract international professionals, students, and families. Warsaw stands out as a modern financial and business hub with a vibrant start-up scene, while Krakow impresses with its UNESCO-listed Old Town and numerous international companies as a cultural and knowledge hub. Smaller cities and regions, such as the Masurian Lakes or the Tatra Mountains in the south, provide high quality of life and diverse leisure opportunities.
Living costs are significantly lower than in Switzerland or Germany, especially for housing and everyday expenses. At the same time, Poland offers good infrastructure, a solid education system, and a growing healthcare sector with differences between public and private care. Further information can be found at InterNations or in the expat guides on Expat.com.

Customs and Import Regulations in Poland
As an EU member, Poland follows European customs and import regulations. Personal household goods can be imported duty- and tax-free if they have been in personal use and will continue to be used privately. For Swiss citizens, proof of residence change is required, such as deregistration from Switzerland and a rental or purchase contract in Poland. More information is available from the Polish Customs and Tax Administration.
Vehicles may be imported as part of household goods if they have been owned for at least six months. After import, vehicles must be registered in Poland within six months. Information on registration is provided by the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure. Pets may be brought if they have an EU Pet Passport, microchip, and valid rabies vaccination.
